Custom T-Shirt Quilts

I make t-shirt quilts a little bit differently than you may have seen elsewhere. 

I create the quilt to be soft and cuddly yet withstand years of use.  I fuse the design element on the shirt to a very lightweight interfacing to keep the shirt from stretching out.  Each shirt is cut to the same size.  Usually 12 or 14 inches square.  Then I sew each shirt to a coordinating sashing (the fabric border which frames each shirt).  This makes the t-shirts the focus and also provides strength to the quilt.  I only use 100% cotton "quilting quality" fabric.

After the t-shirts are sewn together to make the top, I layer them to the backing with a soft, cozy batting made of 80% cotton (for softness) and 20% poly (for strength and durability).  Then I quilt it all over with a clear thread in a design to complement the quilt.  The quilting is done on my longarm quilting machine and is guided by hand.  I don't use a computerized system.  The binding is sewn on to the quilt by machine and then flipped to the back and sew down by hand for a quality finished look!

Your finished quilt can be machine washed and dried.
